Abstract

The current research aimed to identify the management of natural resources and its impact on achieving sustainable tourism development, taking Heit District as a model for the study. To achieve this objective, the research population was defined within Al-Anbar Governorate, while Heit District was selected as a representative sample for the field study, given the diverse natural and environmental potentials the district possesses that contribute to stimulating tourism attraction. The researcher adopted the descriptive-analytical approach due to its appropriateness for the nature of the set objectives, where a questionnaire was utilized as the primary tool for collecting data and information from the study sample. To ensure the scientific validity of the instrument, the face and construct validity of the questionnaire were verified, in addition to measuring its reliability using Cronbach's alpha coefficient to ensure internal consistency of the items. Data processing and statistical analysis were conducted utilizing the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software. The research yielded a set of results, most notably the existence of a statistically significant positive correlation between natural resource management (as an independent variable) and the achievement of tourism development (as a dependent variable). This confirms that the optimal utilization and proper environmental planning of natural resources directly and effectively contribute to advancing tourism reality and providing an attractive environment for investment. In light of these results, the research presented a number of conclusions demonstrating the importance of Heit District as a promising tourism environment that requires the activation of sustainable management plans. The research concluded with a set of recommendations and proposals, foremost among which was the necessity of enhancing coordination between local authorities and the tourism sector to protect natural resources, and developing long-term development strategies that ensure the sustainability of these resources for future generations, as well as proposing future research addressing other dimensions of resource management in similar regions.
